Notes:
Spatially resolved oxygen concentration measurements were performed in premixed hydrocarbon flames by using laser induced spontaneous Raman scattering. The measurements demonstrate the performance of a relatively simple pulsed laser Raman probe for fundamental combustion studies and also for the control of the equivalence ratio in flames (best spatial resolution: 0.2 mm3; theoretical detection limit: 0.8% of O2). Comparison of the results with those obtained by a mechanical suction probe (Magnos 2 T) confirmed a good agreement. At present, control of different stoichiometric conditions is possible at a minimum O2 concentration of 1.3%.
