Notes: Abstract The full variety of secondary and associated upper tract abnormalities concurrent with obstructive valves seems not to be generally appreciated. While upper urinary dilatation and impaired renal function are features regarded as almost obligatory, there are cases at the other end of the spectrum with surprisingly slight or no abnormalities of the bladder, ureters or collecting systems. Therefore a negative IVP does not exclude posterior urethral valves in any boy with symptoms pertaining to the urinary tract. A MCU should invariably be included in the radiological work-up.

Notes: Abstract In a series of 65 male infants and children, all with the diagnosis of posterior urethral valves, pre- and postoperative urographic findings were reviewed. In addition changes occurring in the bladder, and the implication of vesico-ureteral reflux were assessed. — Preoperatively diagnosed impairment of kidney function and concommitant dilatation of the upper urinary tract, with some exceptions, remained fairly unchanged at postoperative examinations In the case of marked vesico-ureteral reflux, permanent kidney function annihilation was significantly commoner than with slight or no reflux. — Although, as a rule, both the upper urinary tract and the bladder were affected, there were cases of posterior urethral valves with a normal appearing bladder. As the intravenous urography do not exclude the urethral abnormality, voiding cysto-urethrography has to be included in the primary radiological exploration of all cases with urological problems.

Notes: Abstract Dorso-medial pleural reflection line anomalies occur in malignant tumours, neuroblastoma being the commonest one, in benign tumours, spinal inflammatory disorders and in cases of pseudotumours of different origin. The latter group comprises normal structure variants, malformations and acquired disease but also a small number of transitory or permanent lesions of uncertain or obscure origin. The radiological manifestations encountered are displacement, obliteration or blurring of the paraspinal contour, sometimes a frank paravertebral mass. Based on a case material consisting of 65 patients the importance of recognizing this feature is stressed. An approach to clinical and radiological diagnosis is discussed.

Notes: Abstract In infants and children the association of paravertebral widening and abdominal tumour has been regarded as typical of neuroblastoma. However, a paraspinal mass may develop in other malignant tumours too, but seems to be extremely rare in nephroblastoma. The fourth case so far on record is reported. Microscopically the tumour was of the sarcomatous clear cell variant.
