Abstract The clinical benefit of iotrolan, a non-ionic dimeric contrast agent, was compared with the commonly used non-ionic contrast agent iopamidol, in a multicenter study in cerebral angiography. Iotrolan provided a diagnostic angiographic effect with a reduced rate of adverse events when compared with iopamidol. Heat sensations at the site of iotrol an injection were apparently milder than with iopamidol, and no effects on hematology, blood biochemistry or urinalysis were observed. The clinical benefit of iotrolan, assessed after consideration of imaging efficacy and overall safety, was good.
