Description / Table of Contents: Summary In this paper the relationship between psychodiagnosis and client-centered therapy is discussed. Rogers is wrongly said to have rejected any kind of diagnosis and that this therapy form has therefore developed an ambiguous relationship to this issue. If one sees psychodiagnosis as something psychodynamic, and symptoms as defense strategies against underlying conflicts, then a comprehensive ’status diagnosis’ using more or less traditional psychiatric categories appears compatible with theory-led client-centered diagnosis in the initial phase and during the course of therapy. Client-centered psychotherapy itself may be seen as a continuous process of dialogue in which ’assumed diagnoses’ (embedded in the therapist’s ’empathic knowledge’) are jointly checked and in which the client through direct experience learns to understand and change his ’diagnosis’.

Notes: Sydnone Ethylenes. II. Electronic Interactions in 4-Styryl-sydnonesAn estimation of intramolecular donor/acceptor interactions in 4-styryl-sydnones can be made by the substituent increments Ztrans derived from the corresponding vinyl compounds and by the comparison of the u.v.-spectra of ω(E)-substituted styrols. Because of the different anisotropic effects of sydnone and aryl groups the chemical shifts of the ethylene protons are not suitable for this purpose. The observed and calculated u.v.-spectra show that the electronic excitation of 4-styryl-sydnones causes a strengthening of the sydnone donor effect and a decrease of the bond-order in the C=C-region.

Description / Table of Contents: Charge-transfer Energies of Molecular Complexes of Tetracyanoethylene with Phenylsubstituted Ethylenes and Substituted trans-StilbenesStarting from the tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) complexes of 6 phenyl-substituted ethylenes and 9 substituted trans-stilbenes, the influence of the size of the π-system, the topology, and the substitution of donators in π,π-complexes are examined. For this aim the determined ct-excitation energies are discussed by means of terms of perturbation theory, and compared with the results of PPP-calculations for donator ionization potentials. Corresponding to the number, position and electronic effects of substituents the examined donators are classified into groups the members of which are distinguished by analogies in their ct-spectra.

Notes: Sydnone Ethylenes. III. Chemical Reactions of Excited 4-Styryl-sydnonesDependent on the character of the substituents in the photo reactions of 4-styryl sydnones Z/E-isomerism competes with CO2-elimination. Excited p-nitrostyryl sydnones exhibit a relatively strong degradation of the bond order in the C—C region. Their quantum yields of Z/E-isomerism are therefore much higher than those of compounds with p-substituents of lower acceptor effect. In these compounds the cleavage of the sydnone ring with elimination of carbon dioxide is favoured especially if a methyl group is in 3-position of the sydnone.
