Notes: Abstract Nickel niobate (NiNb2O6) supported on SiO2 was prepared by a chemical mixing method using mixed Ni and Nb citrate solutions. X-ray diffraction study showed that the NiNb2O6 compound was reduced to Ni metal and NbO2 after H2 treatment at 600 ° C, and a strong Ni-niobia interaction was induced after the decomposition of the compound: the ethane hydrogenolysis activity was suppressed severely after high temperature reduction at 600 ° C, and recovered by O2 treatment at 500 ° C followed by low-temperature reduction at 200 ° C. The selectivity of cyclohexane dehydrogenation was improved significantly by the Ni-niobia interaction, if compared with unpromoted Ni/SiO2 catalyst, and the structural change and catalytic behaviors were compared with those of Rh double oxides such as RhNbO4.

Notes: Abstract Rh double-oxide compound (MoRh2O6) supported on SiO2 was prepared by air calcination treatment of a molybdenum oxide-promoted Rh/SiO2 catalyst at 700 °C, and the chemisorptive and catalytic properties of the compound, as well as the changes in those behaviors by H2 reduction, have been studied. The MoRh2O6/SiO2 catalyst exhibited almost no ability of H2 and CO chemisorption, but a high activity for CO oxidation reaction. After H2 treatment at 200 °C, X-ray diffraction showed that the MoRh2O6 compound was reduced to a MoRh alloy, and this catalyst now exhibited a significant activity for the hydrogenolysis of cyclohexane. A drastic decrease in the activity was, however, observed after H2 treatment at 500 °C.

Notes: Abstract The authors describe a rare case of handlebar hernia in a 9-year-old-boy. All layers of his abdominal wall were disrupted by a fall on a bicycle; however, his skin and intra-abdominal organs were completely intact. Computed tomography demonstrated subcutaneous intestinal loops protruding through the rent. Surgical repair was performed, and his postoperative course was uneventful.
