Abstract The logically oriented structure of the sequence of diagnostic techniques can easily be introduced into daily practice. The screening suggested creates diagnostic security. The amount of security is directly dependent on the number and quality of all functionally oriented examinations and treatment procedures the doctors have done by themselves. Clinical experience is very valuable. The differentiation of functional disorders of the craniomandibular system in dento-/occlusal, myogen and arthrogen components is really important, because every single disturbance needs a specific therapy to obtain good and stable treatment results. There is no occlusal splint or physiotherapeutic technique that can be used for all of these disorders.

Zusammenfassung Der logische Aufbau der Untersuchungssequenz erlaubt die volle Integration des Systems in die tägliche Praxis. Sie schafft ein Maximum an diagnostischer Sicherheit. Dabei lebt die Sicherheit der Aussagen aus der Untersuchungskaskade von der Menge und Qualität der von jedem einzelnen Arzt durchgeführten Untersuchungen und der darauf aufbauenden Therapie. Die genaue Differenzierung der Funktionsstörungen des kraniomandibulären Systems (CMS) in dento-/okklusogene, myogene und arthrogene Komponenten ist deshalb so wichtig, da für jede funktionelle Störung – wenn die entsprechende Behandlung erfolgreich sein soll – eine spezifische Therapie zur Anwendung kommt. So gibt es z. B. keinen universellen Aufbissbehelf, der für alle diese Störungen angewendet werden kann.
