    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto In questo lavoro è stata studiata l’interazione non lineare di un fascio gaussiano elettromagnetico con un’onda elettrostatica superiore ibrida in un plasma magnetizzato senza collisione. Per quanto riguarda l’interazione del fascio elettromagnetico gaussiano incidente, una componente dipendente del tempo della forza ponderomotrice diventa finita e porta alla modifica nella densità di fondo. Questo dà luogo all’eccitazione del modo ibrido superiore del plasma. L’onda elettrostatica eccitata porta a un accrescimento dello scattering di Raman all’indietro. Si deduce un’espressione per la potenza diffusa e si discute l’effetto del campo magnetico statico esterno sull’aumento della perturbazione di densità e della potenza diffusa.
    Notes: Summary In this paper we have studied the nonlinear interaction of a Gaussian electromagnetic beam with an electrostatic upper hybrid wave in a collisionless magnetized plasma. On account of the interaction of the incident Gaussian electromagnetic beam with the plasma, a time-independent component of the ponderomotive force becomes finite and leads to the modification in the background density. This results in the excitation of the upper hybrid mode of the plasma. The excited electrostatic wave leads to the enhanced Raman backscattering. An expression for the scattered power is derived and the effect of the external static magnetic field on the enhancement of the density perturbation and scattered power is discussed.

    Notes: Summary A large-amplitude beat wave excited at the beat frequency of two copropagating laser beams is extremely unstable and suffers strong three- and fourwave parametric instabilities with large growth rates. The relativistic effects are seen to be negligible on both the decay and modulation instabilities. However, the growth rates of these instabilities are sensitive functions of the plasma parameters.
