Description / Table of Contents: Isolation of Dibenzyl Ether Hydroperoxide by Peroxygenation of Benzyl Alcohol and Dibenzyl EtherPeroxygenation of dibenzyl ether (1) and benzyl alcohol (2) yields dibenzyl ether hydroperoxide (4), which is isolated by column chromatography in a purity of 95 and 92.5% resp·. Acid hydrolysis of 4 yields benzaldehyde (5), 2, and hydrogen peroxide: catalytic hydrogenation leads to 5, 2, and water; reaction with 5n NaOH gives benzoic acid (6) and 2. Catalytic decomposition of 4 with ferrous sulfate results in the formation of benzyl benzoate (7).
