Notes: Structural studies of oligobutadienediol-based polyurethanes with various degrees of crosslinking were carried out. From absolute small-angle X-ray scattering, the degree of segregation of components was determined. It was concluded that a complete microphase separation of the different components is realized in all samples irrespective of the degree of crosslinking, and these polymers are two-phase systems. While stretching, the fibrillar structure is formed.

Notes: X-ray studies on polymers with phenyl benzoate side groups separated from the main chain by spacer groups of various lengths have been performed. It was found that the dimensions of liquid-crystalline regions are 15-20 nm, and they contain four to six close-packed layers. Thermal changes in x-ray scattering are associated with the variation of sizes and concentration of liquid-crystalline regions determined by the mobility of the main chain.

Description / Table of Contents: A series of polymers having pendant phenylbenzoate groups of different length was investigated by detailled x-ray measurements within a wide range of temperature. Very long flexible terminal chains were found to penetrate each other. Increase in temperature results in improved liquid-crystalline structure of polymers having methacrylate main chains but in less significant structural features with polymers based on acrylate main chains at T 〉 Tg.

Notes: Features of supermolecular organization in liquid-crystalline polymers with mesogenic side groups and mesogenic groups in the main chains are described. The nematic and cholesteric mesophase in polymers are shown to be macroscopic ordered phases similar to low-molecular liquid crystals. Smectic polymers are microheterogeneous systems with complicated levels of supermolecular structures: layered packs and their aggregates.
