Notes: Differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction experiments on ß-nucleated poly(propylene) were made on samples crystallized at different temperatures. The crystal perfection was shown to vary with crystallization temperature. The observed multiple peaks could be related to a ß1-phase with defective inclination of the chains, a recrystallized or original ß2-phase of more perfect inclination, and the α-phase.

Notes: Effects of crystallization conditions, heating rate, and isothermal annealing on the melting behavior of isotactic polypropylene samples with predominantly β-form were studied by differential scanning calorimetry. The results show that the β-form of these samples has a higher thermal stability and a lower recrystallization ability to the α-form after melting than the β-form of other samples.

Notes: Copolymers of 2-ethylacrylic acid (EAA) and methacrylic acid (MAA) were prepared in bulk and in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). Although precipitation of the copolymers was observed in bulk, the reaction mixtures remained apparently homogeneous in DMF. Best-fit terminal-model reactivity ratios were determined by a nonlinear least squares technique to be rMAA = 1.14 and rEAA = 0.23 in bulk, and rMAA = 1.91 and rEAA = 0.09 in 50% DMF solution. Examination of 13C-NMR spectra provided convincing evidence for the formation of statistical copolymers. Copolymerizations richer in MAA provided copolymers of higher molecular weights.
