    Notes: The optimization of three emulsions with predetermined components was performed by the aid of experimental design. Three different surfactants were compared: the salts of hexadecylhydrogenphosphate with diethanolamine, lysine and arginine respectively. Optimized microemulsions showed quite high stabilities towards centrifugation (30–60 min at 7000 rpm). The results showed that the counter-ion can affect the composition and stability of an emulsion.

    Notes: Vitamin A palmitate photostability in relation to ultravoilet A (UVA) and ultravoilet B (UVB) was tested in hydroxy ethyl cellulose hydrogels at pH 4.0, 5.6, 7.0, and 8.0, alone and with the addition of sunscreens (3,4-methylbenzilidencamphor or butyl methoxy dibenzoylmethane) or an antioxidant (butylated hydroxy toluene). The photostability of vitamin A palmitate was also tested in encapsulated systems (Tagravit_A1 microcapsules, Lipotec_liposomes, phosphatidylcholine liposomes, and Lipotec_nanocapsules) dispersed in gels at pH 5.6 and 7.0. The stability of retinyl palmitate over time in hydroxy ethyl cellulose hydrogels at pH 5.6 and 7.0 (stored 1 month at 25 or 40 °C), alone or with butylated hydroxy toluene, was also tested. The stability of retinyl palmitate over time in encapsulated systems, dispersed in gels at pH 5.6 and 7.0, was also studied. O/W emulsions were also prepared to compare the stability of vitamin A palmitate introduced in a lipophilic/hydrophilic medium (O/W emulsions) and a hydrophilic medium (hydrogels). HPLC analysis showed that encapsulated systems such as Lipotec_nanocapsules, Tagravit_A1 microcapsules, phosphatidylcholine liposomes, and Lipotec_liposomes protect the vitamin A ester over time from hydrolysis and from oxidation to retinaldeide and retinoic acid, and that Lipotec_nanocapsules and phosphatidylcholine liposomes also improve the vitamin's photostability. A change in pH (5.6–7.0) of the gels did not influence the vitamin ester's stability. pH levels of 4.0 and 8.0 determined a decrease in the stability of retinyl palmitate in the gels. A high concentration of sunscreens improved the photostability of retinyl palmitate in the gels at pH 5.6 and 7.0. Butylated hydroxy toluene protected retinyl palmitate from degradation induced by light at all the pH levels studied and by heat at pH 5.6 and 7.0, as can be seen from the study of the photostability of vitamin A palmitate under UVB and UVA and of stability over time. Rheological studies showed a slight decrease in the viscosity of the gels after UVB–UVA irradiation and a higher decrease in the viscosity of the gels and the emulsions after storage at 25 and 40°C. This decrease can be attributed to a partial degradation of hydroxy ethyl cellulose and of emulsifier, as can be seen from the decrease in shear stress versus shear rate values under these conditions of storage, denoting a depolymerization of the rheological modifier.

    Notes: Oil/water (o/w) microemulsions containing propranolol were studied. Isopropylmyristate was used as the oil, Tween 60 as a surfactant, butanol as a co-surfactant and a buffer of pH 6.5 for the continuous phase. The lipophilicity of propranolol was enhanced by formation of lipophilic ion-pairs to obtain a disperse phase that could act as a reservoir; octanoic acid was used as counter-ion. The diffusion rates of propranolol from microemulsions through a hydrophilic membrane decreased as the concentration of octanoic acid increased. The apparent permeability constant, determined at the beginning of the experiment, was 2.9 × 10−9 cm s−1 for propranolol alone and diminished until 3.5 × 10−10 cm s−1 in the presence of octanoic acid, at a concentration of 16.4 times that of propranolol.

    Notes: A new approach is suggested for studying the nature of molecular transport in simple liquids, which makes use of site-specific isotopic substitutions. Its application represents the first systematic experimental study of a theoretically predicted correlation between transport coefficients in liquids and molecular moments of inertia. For this purpose, we have determined the viscosities and self-diffusion coefficients at 25 °C of normal methanol and seven isotopically labeled methanol species: CH3OD, CD3OH, CD3OD, CH2DOH, CHD2OH, CHD2OD, and 13CH3OH. Except for 12C/13C substitution, the observed isotope effects are significantly larger than predicted by a square root of mass dependence, but are well correlated with the square roots of the moments of inertia. The results give strong evidence that translation–rotation coupling influences the transport processes in methanol, thus confirming earlier interpretations of isotope effects upon the transport in water.

    Notes: Abstract: We report on the results obtained from the study of the 32S +74Ge deep inelastic reaction at incident energy E= 320 MeV. High-energy γ-rays were detected in an array of 6 seven-pack BaF2 clusters. Coincidence with complex fragments detected in 12 three-stage telescopes ensured the selection of peripheral reaction events. In order to investigate the pre-equilibrium dipole strength excitation two independent analyses were performed. In the first analysis the energy spectra of the γ-rays were evaluated in the statistical model framework while in the second one the γ-ray fragment angular correlation with respect to the nuclear spin vector of the composite system was studied. Both methods indicate the excitation of dipole strength in the highly deformed dinucleus and provide dipole resonance parameter sets that are in good agreement with each other.

    Notes: Abstract: The 32S + 100Mo and 36S + 96Mo fusionlike reactions were studied at incident energy of E lab = 298 MeV and 320 MeV, respectively, with the aim of probing the influence of the entrance channel charge asymmetry on the dipole γ-ray emission. The excitation energy and spin distribution of the compound nucleus created in these reactions were identical, the only difference being associated with the unequal charge asymmetry of the two entrance channels. High-energy γ-rays were detected in an array of 9 seven-pack BaF2 clusters. Coincidence with fusionlike residues detected in four PPAC ensured the selection of central reaction events. By studying the differential γ-ray multiplicity associated with the two reactions it was shown that the dipole strength excited in the compound nucleus increases with the entrance channel charge asymmetry. From the linearized spectra, the increase of the GDR γ-ray intensity was found to be ∼ 25% for the more charge asymmetric system. The results are discussed and compared with those of previous data obtained at different incident energies.
