Notes: Abstract The time evolution of magnetic field from a steady state of an ideal unmagnetized plasma does not seem to be possible. The electric field produced to maintain the density gradient turns out to be curl-free, which is a result different from earlier investigations quoted in the literature. Some kind of perturbation or an external effect is necessary to produce magnetic fields. The electron inertia can play a vital role in electromagnetic instabilities. Therefore, the magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) models used to study magnetic field generation should be modified especially to look into the system's evolution from zero time when the field is zero in the ideal unmagnetized plasma.
