Notes: Abstract The influence of surface active additives on surface failures of silicon nitride is presented. This influence is mainly manifested in a substantial increase in the material removal rate of ground silicon nitride balls in an additive-containing slurry. Results of an experiment designed to simulate a single event taking place during grinding also point to a modifying action of the additives used.
