Abstract The content of NO in the kidneys, heart, and spleen of intact August rats surpasses that of Wistar rats. After heat shock the content of NO rises: in the kidneys 15.5-fold, in the liver 3.2-fold, in the heart 10-fold, in the spleen 6.4-fold, in the intestine 2.8-fold, and in the brain 1.9-fold. Thus, August rats, which are less resistant to heat shock than Wistar rats, are characterized by a more pronounced activation of NO synthesis in response to heat shock.
