Notes: Abstract In The Netherlands biomanipulation is used in several cases as a follow-up measure after decrease of external nutrient loads. In order to investigate wether biomanipulation can contribute to the restauration of freshwater ecosystems an experiment was carried out in the Duinigermeer, a 28 ha lake in de Wieden, an important nature reserve in The Netherlands. After removal of 80% of the fish stock the lake became transparent and a 50% coverage of the bottom withChara sp. developped. This paper gives a description of the measures and results.
