Abstract The use of radiation therapy in the management of intramedullary spinal cord tumors remains controversial. Several studies indicate that the use of postoperative radiation therapy modestly improves both local control and survival in spinal cord ependymomas and astrocytomas. Modern treatment planning and imaging allow more accurate target definition and respect for related normal tissue tolerances.
