    Notes: Abstract For nonaqueous electrolytes, using the HSAB principle, we tried to correlate the conductivity maxima κMAX, vs. only two intrinsic parameters: chemical hardness η of the solvent and that of the salt. Thus, not only the nature of the solvent but also that of the salt were taken into account. We were able to predict for a given solvent the variation of κMAX as a function of the hardness of the salt and that of the solvent: κMAX = K(1 − |Δη|/ηSOLVENT) with |Δη| = |ηSOLVENT − ηSALT| and K a constant in S-cm−1 independent of the salt, but not of the solvent.

    Notes: 4-mercaptoaniline functionalised platinum particles of 2 nm diameter were synthesised and over-grafted with 2-thiophenecarbonyl chloride. The derivative particles were dispersed in DMSO and gave long term stable suspensions. The Langmuir-Blodgett technique was then used to build up stable Langmuir-Blodgett films and the electrochemical behaviour of these ultra-thin films towards oxygen reduction was investigated in an acidic medium. It revealed direct activity without any previous activation treatments despite of the presence of the organic shell at the particle surface. Furthermore, XPS experiments revealed that the organic crown was not significantly destroyed on prolonged cycling. The results open a way to study original and versatile platinum-based nanocomposites

    Description / Table of Contents: Résumé L'évolution de la rapidité de la réduction électrochimique des ions Co2+, Ni2+, Pb2+, In3+ et Zn2+ dans plusieurs milieux complexants a d'abord été étudiée: l'élongation et l'étalement des pics obtenus sont donnés pour une concentration 10−5 M pour chaque ion. Ensuite la résolution des couples Zn2+/Co2+, Zn2+/Ni2+, In3+/Cd2+ et Pb2+/Tl+ a été considérée dans les mêmes milieux complexants. Pour chaque couple on donne la différence ΔE entre les potentiels de demi-vague des éléments et l'allure des polarogrammes.
    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Die Abhängigkeit der elektrochemischen Reduktionsgeschwindigkeit von verschiedenen Komplexbildnern wird am Beispiel der Ionen Co2+, Ni2+, Pb2+, In3+ und Zn2+ untersucht. Ausdehnung und Form der Polarogramme werden für jedes Element in 10−5 m Lösung angegeben. In den gleichen komplexbildenden Elektrolyten wird sodann die Trennung der Ionen Zn2+/Co2+, Zn2+/Ni2+, In3+/Cd2+ und Pb2+/Tl+ untersucht. Für jede Ionenkombination wird die Halbstufenpotentialdifferenz ΔE angegeben und das Polarogramm erläutert.
    Notes: Summary The electrochemical reduction rate of the ions Co2+, Ni2+, Pb2+, In3+ and Zn2+ is studied in solutions of various complexing agents. The width and the shape of the peaks for each ion in 10−5 M concentration are given. The resolution of the couples Zn2+/Co2+, Zn2+/Ni2+, In3+/Cd2+ and Pb2+/Tl+ in the same electrolytes is shown hereafter. The difference ΔE of the half-wave potentials and the behaviour of the polarograms for each couple is given.

    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Nach einem kurzen Überblick über die Grundlagen der analytischen Anwendung des „Southern Analytical“ Pulse-Polarographen werden die experimentell ermittelten analytischen Daten angegeben: Nachweisgrenze 10−8 M für Cadmium; Trennvermögen in 5 · 10−7 N Lösung geben Cadmium und Indium zwei Peaks mit 40 mV Abstand; Überschußverhältnis: Cadmium ist in einer Konzentration von 5·10−8 M neben einem 104fachen Bleüberschuß nachweisbar.
    Notes: Summary After a brief recapitulation of Barker's works, main analytical characteristics of the «Southern Analytical» pulse polarograph are given. The analytical specifications determined by experiment are the following: detection limit for cadmium is 10−8 M; resolution power: cadmium and indium give two separate peaks about 40 mV apart in 5×10−7 N solution; excess ratio: 5×10−8 Mole/l of cadmium are detectable in presence of a 104 times greater excess of lead.
