Isobasic Isoquinolines, I. - Derivatives of 2-Hydroxyimino-2-(1-isoquinolinyl)acetic Acid and Their Reduction ProductsThe isobasic 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolin-1-ylideneacetonitriles and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolin-1-ylideneacetic acid derivatives 3a-d react with nitrous acid to give the hydroxyimino derivatives 4a-d, the structures of which have also been proved by alkali degradation to 5. Selective hydration of the azomethine bond in 4a and 5 with sodium borohydride yields the compounds 6 and 8, respectively. Catalytic reduction of 4a in acidic solution gives the enediamine 7, which on treatment with nitrous acid gives the 1,2,3-triazolo[5,1-a]isoquinoline 9. Compound 9 was also prepared by heating 3a with benzenesulfonyl azide in toluene. In the presence of alkoxide the same reagent gave the 1-(1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)isoquinoline 10.
Notes:
