Notes: Abstract It is shown that kaprolon has high fatigue strength as compared with kapron (nylon-6) and other thermoplastics. This is attributable both to its high static fatigue strength and to its high fatigue coefficient. For both kapron and kaprolon a sharp increase in hysteretic heat production is observed after critical self-heating at 15° C; in this case the endurance of both materials is low.

Notes: Abstract Analysis of the phenomenon of self-heating as a result of competition between hysteresis heating and heat losses to the ambient medium shows that for polymers two zones of steady-state heating are possible: a low-temperature zone, corresponding to a high endaurace limit, and a high-temperature zone, corresponding to low endurance. Between these zones is a temperature region in which steady-state heating is impossible. The high-temperature steady-state zone is frequently not realized as a consequence of the sharp drop in strength at high temperatures. The transition from one steady-state zone to the other is discontinuous, the occurrence of one or the other zone being determined by the deformation conditions (stress, cycling speed, size of specimen, heat conductivity, etc.). However, the self-heating temperature at which this transition takes place does not depend on the deformation conditions, but is determined only by the properties of the material. These conclusions have been confirmed experimentally.

Notes: Abstract The predissociation or particle emitting decay rates of muonic molecular ions3He dµ and4He dµ are estimated by means of the complex rotation method. We use a highly accurate variational three-bodyP-wave function based on random-tempered Slater-type exponential expansion. A resonance eigenvalue ofE=−48.420 89 eV and γ=0.348 × 10−3 eV for the3He dµ ion and a resonance eigenvalue ofE=−58.225 303 eV and γ=0.118 × 10−3 eV for the4He dµ ion have been obtained. These results are in a good agreement with the ones previously obtained by Kino and Kamimura by scattering calculation with the non-adiabatic coupled-rearrangement-channel method.

Notes: Abstract The long-lived states lying below then=2 threshold in muonic molecular ions ddµ and dtµ are reviewed. We have considered all the known long-lived states both of normal and anomalous spatial parity, the bound states as well as resonant three-body states of “shape” and Feshbach types. It is shown that these states could be satisfactorily classified in terms of the Born-Oppenheimer adiabatic theory. We calculate some characteristic properties of the Feshbach resonances, thus obtaining that the life-time of the 3dσ states is greater than 10−11 s, and the fusion rate from these states less than 109 s−1. The geometry of the 4fσ(J=0,v=0) state shows that it does not obey approximate ungerade symmetry. On the contrary, the low vibrational 3dσ states are approximately of gerade symmetry, as a result these states decay ejecting dµ atoms in the same proportion as tµ atoms.

Notes: Abstract The variational calculation of energy levels for the antiprotonic helium “atomcule” ¯p3,4He+ based on molecular expansion of the wave function is presented. We have taken into account the σ, Τ and δ components of the molecular wave function that correspond to azimuthal magnetic momentam=0, 1, 2, respectively. It has been discovered that the contribution of the π component to energy levels of the “atomcule” is about 5 × 10−4 a.u. and the contribution of the δ component is about 10−7 a.u. The test of convergence enables us to estimate the accuracy of the obtained results to about 10−7 a.u. which is significantly better than all previous theoretical results.

Notes: Abstract A numerical scheme for solving the problem of slow collisions in the three-body adiabatic approach is applied for calculation of muon transfer rates in collisions of hydrogen isotope atoms on bare nuclei. It is demonstrated that the multichannel adiabatic approach allows to reach high accuracy results (∼3%) estimating the cross sections of charge transfer processes which are the best ones up to the present time. The method is applicable in a wide range of energies (0.001–50 eV) which is of interest for analysis of muon catalysed fusion experiments.
