Notes: Abstract Objectives Colchicine poisoning may be lethal and a decrease in cardiac function has been reported in several case reports, but the precise cardiotoxicity of colchicine remains unknown. Design The experimental in vitro study assessed the intrinsic contractility of left ventricular papillary muscle in rats, 24 h after administration of intraperitoneal colchicine or saline. Results The administration of colchicine (2 or 4 mg·kg−1) in adult Wistar rats markedly impaired intrinsic myocardial contractility, as shown by a decrease in maximum shortening velocity (−32 and −61%, respectively), active isometric force (−47 and −65%, respectively), and peak power output (−57 and −69%, respectively) of left ventricular papillary muscle. Colchicine impaired isotonic relaxation and load dependence of relaxation, suggesting a decrease in sarcoplasmic reticulum function. Conversely, colchicine significantly accelerated isometric relaxation, suggesting a decrease in calcium myofilament sensitivity. Myothermal economy was markedly impaired only in some rats (3/10 in each group), in which the negative inotropic effect of colchicine appeared to be more particularly pronounced. Conclusion The results indicate that the administration of high doses of colchicine induced intrinsic cardiotoxic effects. Due to its amplitude, such cardiotoxic action may participate in the fatal outcome of acute colchicine poisoning.

Notes: Abstract During the MESOGERS 84 experiment in SW France from September 10 to October 5, 1984, different aspects of the Atmospheric Boundary Layer over complex terrain were investigated using a regional meteorological network, two instrumented aircraft and a Doppler Sodar network. The main objective has been to understand: flow properties over inhomogeneous terrain; fluxes and inversion height behaviour from a regional point of view. A description of the experiment and of the different studies undertaken is given.

Notes: Abstract Hormonal regulation of cardiac inotropism is often correlated with modification of the L-type Ca-channel current. Among several regulatory pathways that control Ca-channel activity, the best described one is the cAMP cascade. Cyclic AMP-dependent phosphorylation of the Ca-channel results in an increase of the mean open probability of the individual Ca-channels and, thus, of the macroscopic Ca current. Modulation of cAMP concentration can take place at the level of adenylyl cyclases or cAMP phosphodiesterases. Of major interest is the fact that the activity of two different forms of phosphodiesterases is controlled by the level of intracellular cGMP. Thus, cAMP metabolism is intimately associated with cGMP metabolism, and both determine the degree of cAMP-dependent phosphorylation of cardiac Ca-channels. This brief discussion will focus on these two levels of control and their relative importance in the cAMP-dependent regulation of myocardial Ca-channels.

Notes: Abstract We present calculations of the cross-sections and the forward-backward asymmetry forp $$\bar p$$ →ℓ+ ℓ− +X in the framework of anSU(2)×U(1)×G model with two neutral gauge bosons [G=U(1) orSU(2)]. It is shown that a peak in the cross-section associated with a large asymmetry will characterize a deviation from the standard model.

Notes: Abstract In application of the general procedure defined in I, we analyze various kinds of anomalous effects which could appear either in the leptonic or in the bosonic sector of the reactionse + e −→ZZ, γZ and γγ: excited electron, excited vector boson or isoscalar partner, anamalous three-neutral boson couplings, residual contact terms involving transverse or longitudinalZ-components. Results are given in view of SLC, LEP and future linear colliders.

Notes: Abstract We present a phenomenological analysis of the various kinds of anomalous effects which can apper either in the leptonic or in the bosonic sector of the reactionse + e −→V V′(V V′=W ±,Z 0 or γ). A general descritpin of invariant amplitudes and helicity amplitudes is given. Applications are made with non standar couplings, new intermediate states, residuale + e − VV′ contact interactions. In this first part results are given fore + e −→W + W − in view of LEP 200 and future linear colliders in the TeV range.
