    Description / Table of Contents: Summary A general continuum theory is developed for the description of the isothermal linear viscoelastic stress-strain behavior of reinforced and unreinforced plastics. From the assumption of an energy density that is invariant under time reversal general symmetry relations of the compliance tensor are derived. Explicit representations for the compliance tensor are presented for transversaely isotropic and orthotropic compound materials with an isotropic matrix. The theoretical results are checked by experiments with glass fibre reinforced duromers. There is a very good agreement in the domain of reversible stress-behavior. The same holds for the strongly creeping amorphous thermoplastics.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Es wird eine allgemeine Kontinuumstheorie entwickelt zur Beschreibung des isothermen linear-viskoelastischen Formänderungsverhaltens verhaltens verstärkter und unverstärkter Kunststoffe bei beliebigen mehrachsigen Spannungen. aus der Annahme einer gegen Zeitumkehr invarianten Energiedichte werden allgemeine Symmetriebeziehungen des Nachwirkungstensors abgeleitet. Explizite Darstellungen für den Nachwirkungstensor werden angegeben für transvers isotrope und orthotrope Verbundwerkstoffe mit isotroper Matrix. Die theoretischen Ergebnisse werden überprüft durch Experimente an glasfaserverstärkten duroplastischen Kunststoffen. Es besteht eine gute Übereinstimmung im Bereich reversiblen Formänderungsvehaltens. Das gilt auch für die stark krichenden amorphen Thermoplaste.

    Notes: The time-dependent deformation of orthotropic and transversely isotropic viscoelastic materials under biaxial constant load is given in the range of linear and reversible stress-strain behavior for isothermal processes. This allows one to calculate the deformation of plastics on the basis of isochronous stress-strain diagrams. In addition, a method is presented which allows a calculation of the creep moduli of mat-reinforced unsaturated polyesters and their dependence on glass content, temperature, and time. This calculation requires only specific creep data of matrix material and the elastic modulus of the reinforcement.
