Notes: Electromagnetic field probes are described which use ultrasonic transmission lines for signal transmission from a small electric or magnetic measuring dipole to the data processing unit. These transmission lines are made of nonmetallic material with low permittivity and permeability so that its interaction with the field to be measured is minimum. In particular, there is no evidence of energy leakage via surface or sheath waves, which normally cause problems when usual metallic connecting cables are used. This is especially important when measuring near fields of antennas or fields in resonators with high Q factors. Wide-band operation was achieved by amplitude modulating the field to be measured at a low frequency. The purpose of this modulation is to create a low-frequency (kHz) signal which can be transmitted via an ultrasonic line, designed to resonate at this low frequency. The radio frequency (rf) itself can extend over a broad range since the ultrasonic line does not transmit this frequency directly. Since the ultrasonic line is operated at a low frequency, its design and manufacture including ultrasonic transducers are essentially simple, even for field probes working in the gigahertz range. The design of the transmission line and of the measuring dipoles with demodulation circuitry are described. The probe performance is discussed for a magnetic field probe used for field measurements in resonant antennas for magnetic resonance imaging in the frequency range up to about 200 MHz. A typical field measurement result is presented for this application.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Oberschenkeldoppelamputierten rind lebenslang an ihren Rollstuhl gebunden.
Notes: Summary After amputation of both legs, patients tend to obesity, bowel movement disorders and muscular atrophy of the abdominal wall and the stumps. The newly developed prosthesis enables the patient to train these muscles more easily without the help of other persons while swimming at a fairly high speed. The individually fitted prosthesis is held in place by suction. It can be adapted for different styles of swimming. The film demonstrates the use and advantages of the new device.

Notes: Abstract We have used plots of the Auger amplitudes versus deposition time to investigate the growth mode of 3d-transition metals on noble metal (100) surfaces. The systems considered are Fe/Cu(100), Fe/Au(100), Co/Cu(100), and Cr/Ag(100). We find that: 1. The Auger plots consist of a succession of straight lines of constant length with sharp breaks in between, i.e. the growth mode is essentially layer-by-layer. 2. From the experimental data points a slight rounding off in the vicinity of the break points cannot be excluded, although a numerical analysis shows that the deviation from perfect layer-by-layer growth is less than 10% of a monolayer for all systems considered.

Notes: Abstract Acousto-optic interaction in the noble gases Krypton and Xenon under high pressure and in liquid Sulfurhexafluoride was measured in the far infrared spectral range at 119 μm (Methylalcohol-laser). The acousto-optic parameters of these interaction media are discussed and measured data on acoustic and electromagnetic absorption in the frequency range of interest is presented.
