Abstract A version of nontraditional methods is presented for analyzing three-dimensional large objects in an elastic arrangement which makes it possible to combine the simplicity and algorithmic nature of a FEM displacement method with a higher order of approximation of stresses and strains typical for a mixed FEM formulation. An algorithm is provided which realizes the approaches suggested. The efficiency and reliability of the procedure for calculating the stressed state of three-dimensional articles is illustrated on the example of solving a number of control problems. Results obtained on the basis of the displacement method and the adapted-mixed FEM version are compared.
