The Extension of the Kjeldahl Process into a Generally Applicable Method for the Determination of NitrogenThe substance containing nitrogen is decomposed with concentrated sulphuric acid in a special apparatus by means of heat and the action of a catalyst. The elementary nitrogen which escapes is measured directly. The decomposition products are treated further in the customary manner. The sum of both values is the overall nitrogen content. In the newly developed gas-volumetric method, the entire nitrogen content is obtained in the form of a gas and so determined.

Die Stickstoff-haltige Substanz wird mit konzentrierter Schwefelsäure unter Erwärmen und Katalysatorwirkung in einer Spezialapparatur aufgeschlossen. Dabei entweichender elementarer Stickstoff wird direkt gemessen. Der Aufschluß wird wie üblich weiterbehandelt. Die Summe beider Werte gibt den Gesamtstickstoff-Gehalt. Bei der neu entwickelten gasvolumetrischen Methode wird der gesamte Stickstoff-Gehalt gasförmig erhalten und so bestimmt.
