Notizen: A. virus causing mosaic and leaf deformation of Physalis minima has been identified as an isolate of cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) on the basis of its transmission by aphids in a non-persistent manner, polyhedral particles of 29 nm diameter, molecular weight of coat protein subunits us 24-5 kDa. serological relationship with a CMV isolate and a tripartite single-stranded RNA genome with a subgenomic RNA4- Furthermore. cDNA representing coat protein gene was synthesized and cloned. Complete nucleotide sequences (890 nt) were obtained which showed a coat protein gene open reading frame of 657 residues. THE nucleotide sequences provided the 218 amino ACID sequences of the coat protein. Nucleotide as well as amino acid sequences revealed more than 90% identity with the CMV subgroup I strains.

Notizen: Cucumber mosaic virus (serologically closely related to strains CMV-C and CMV-D) is reported for the first time as a natural infection of Dianthus barbatus causing leaf crinkle and stunting of plants. It was mechanically transmitted to healthy D. barbatus and Vaccaria pyramidata (Caryophyllaceae) and to other herbaceous test plants, and was also aphid-transmissible from D. barbatus to D. barbatus. A convenient host for multiplication and purification of the virus was Nicotiana rustica. The presence of CMV was confirmed in D. barbatus and also in V. pyramidata by Western immunoblotting, but the concentration was too low in both the hosts to detect the virus by agar double diffusion tests.

Notizen: Leaf crinkle symptoms, stem necrosis and stunting were observed in Solanum capsicastrum plants in India. A virus was isolated from these plants and identified as a strain of eggplant mottled crinkle virus based on host reactions, in vitro properties, icosahedral particle morphology, buoyant density (1.39 g cm3), molecular weight (41 ± 0.5 kDa) of coat protein subunits and serological relationships

Notizen: Abstract The modified Chew-Goldenberger-Low equations have been used to study the stability of a resistive anisotropic plasma jet surrounded by a non-conducting compressible gas. The dispersion relation has been obtained and discussed in three limiting situations: (i) η, the resistivity vanishingly small, (ii) and (iii) short and long wavelength perturbations. In some cases, the limiting situations λ≫1 or λ≪1 (λ is the ratio of the density of the plasma jet to the density of the exterior gas) have been discussed. The conditions for instability have been obtained. It has been found that the resistivity introduces new modes which make the plasma jet overstable. In the limit of large wavelength disturbances, the jet with finite but high conductivity is found to be unstable. For small wavelength disturbances, the jet is found to be unstable.

Notizen: Abstract The stability of an inhomogeneous anisotropic plasma flowing along a straight magnetic field has been investigated. Both the flow velocity and the plasma density are spatially varying in a direction perpendicular to the magnetic field. The stability of an interface between an inhomogeneous anisotropic plasma flowing along the magnetic field and the non-conducting compressible gas of uniform density flowing parallel to the interface has also been discussed. The effect of gyroviscosity and inhomogeneity on the Kelvin-Helmholtz shear instability has been discussed in certain limiting situations.

Notizen: Abstract Reduced growth of plants and excessive generalised and spotty yellowing of leaves occurred in ornamental crotons that were infected with a geminivirus, which was detected by spot hybridization tests using a cloned probe derived from DNA-A of acalypha yellow mosaic geminivirus. The croton virus was transmitted by the whitefly,Bemisia tabaci, toNicotiana tabacum andAcalypha indica, in which it caused leaf curl and yellow mosaic, respectively, but it was not transmitted to five other species. Infected crotons may therefore serve as reservoirs of a geminivirus that is able to infect a crop species.
