Notes: Abstract. We analyse a model for incompressible flows through a porous medium, characterized by a mechanical interaction between the flow and the solid matrix and by the presence of a wetting front penetrating in a dry medium.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary We study a system of partial differential equations describing the behaviour of a perfect, viscous, polytropic, compressible, chemically reactive gas in a bounded container, under assumptions of cylindrical symmetry. The global existence in the time of a classical solution is proved by some a priori estimates. One extension at the spherical case is given.

Notes: We prove existence, in a small time interval, of a classical solution having a regular free boundary, (i.e. the level set {u=0}) of a multidimensional filtration problem. The key point to get the regularity of the level set {u=0} is the proof of an a priori estimate for the L∞-norm of ut. © 1997 by B.G. Teubner Stuttgart-John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
