Vanadinhexacarbonyl zeichnet sich auch gegenüber O-Basen, wie Ketonen, Aldehyden, Alkoholen und Säureestern durch große Reaktionsfähigkeit aus, es übertrifft in dieser Hinsicht im allgemeinen noch das Kobaltcarbonyl. Mit Triphenylphosphinmethylen und Triphenylphosphinimin wurden ebenfalls derartige Basenreaktionen festgestellt. Die ionogene Struktur der Reaktionsprodukte entspr. [V(B)n][V(CO)6]2 wurde IR-spektroskopisch bestätigt. - Die Säurefunktion des Vanadincarbonylhydrids und seines triphenylphosphin-substituierten Derivats wurde potentiometrisch ermittelt. Das Vanadinhexacarbonyl-hydrid ist eine ähnlich starke Säure wie Kobaltcarbonylwasserstoff.
