Notes:
Attempts to terminate anionic polymerisation by suitably substituted (i. e. chromophoric) compounds, such as 9-anthrylacetyl chloride, 1-naphthoyl chloride, 1-naphthylacetyl chloride, 1-(1-naphthyl)-1-phenylethylene, 1-chloromethylnaphthalene or 1-pyrenylmethyl bromide are described. In combination with the procedure described in part 1 of this series, it is possible to synthesise polymer molecules in which either one or both end-groups contain the above-mentioned photophysically-active moieties. In the difunctional case, the chosen active groups may be either identical or different.
