Notes:
Quantitative conformational analysis of 3-methyl-1-butene, 3-methyl-1-pentene and 3-ethyl-1-pentene seems to support the hypothesis that the conformation of these monomers in the active state of Ziegler-Natta isotactic polymerization is either H-skew + or H-skew -. It seems, however, that the experimentally determined reactivities of the considered α-olefins in the initiation steps of the isotactic polymerization could be accounted for quantitatively only by assuming somewhat different activation energies for the attack of the different monomers.
