Notes:
Summary 1. Retinal action potentials from Myriapode-ocells were firstly recorded extracellularly by means of micro-electrode technique at isolated preparations of Lithobius and have been investigated under several stimulus parameters qualitatively as well as quantitatively. 2. ERG was found to be negative monophasic with initial peak and negative plateau at long durations in a few cases. Most responses, however, consist of a negative on- and a positive off-effect. 3. On-effects are depending from stimulus Intervalls with durations smaller than 1 min, off-effects only with durations smaller than 15 sec. 4. With time of stimulus negative potentials arise between 4 and 125 msec, positive deflections increase even until 300 msec. Form of waves changes at durations longer than 300 msec. 5. Response amplitudes increase with increasing stimulus intensity in a logarithmical, particularly sigmoidal relation, while time of latencies and those of negative peaks decrease. 6. Bunsen-Roscoe-law is to be valid from 4 to 40 msec for on-effects. For off-effects it is probably valid above this range. 7. Wave form and amplitudes change with state of adaptation. Darkadaptation occurs at high stimulus intensities in a biphasic manner and seems to be complete after 20 min. 8. Rhythmical light stimuli cause different decrease of on- and off-effect amplitudes. Critical flicker fusion frequency, preceded by desynchronisation-effects, reaches from 10 to 36 cycl./sec. 9. The results are compared with other photoreceptor data and are discussed in relation to the potential types stated by Autrum (1950).
