Notes: Crystal field theory has been used to identify and locate the energy levels of low-lying (below 10 000 cm−1) states of the rare earth monoxides. These states were then used to calculate the thermal functions, which were, in turn, used to derive accurate dissociation energies of the rare earth monoxides. These newly derived dissociation energies are discussed in terms of a model related to the promotion energies for 4f n+15d0→4f n5d1.

Notes: [Auszug] THE introduction of barium salts to flames or arcs leads, in presence of oxygen, to the production of a characteristic band-spectrum attributed to BaO. Mecke and Guillery1 derived a band-head equation. Mahanti2 gave a new vibrational analysis and also made a ...

Notes: [Auszug] We have now examined the C-X systems of Li2 and Na2, using photographs taken in absorption in first and third orders respectively of a 6-5 m. grating spectrograph. Previous vibrational analyses are confirmed, but rotational analysis of some twenty bands of each system shows that the upper states of ...

Notes: [Auszug] The orange bands of FeO at X 6000 A have been known for many years9. More recently they have been observed in absorption in flash photolysis10 and in flash heating11. Low pressure arcs provide a better source of the bands in emission, and some of the lines of bands of a v' = 0 progression have ...

Notes: [Auszug] SILICON monosulphide is a member of a group of diatomic oxides, sulphides, selenides and tellurides of carbon, silicon, germanium, tin and lead which has formed the subject of some recent spectroscopic investigations1. Its rotational constants are therefore of interest for ...

Notes: [Auszug] WE have recently had occasion to photograph the emission spectra of the flames from various pyrotechnic compositions containing barium and chlorine compounds. The well-known green and ultraviolet band-systems of BaCl are, of course, strongly developed in these sources, but in addition, a number ...
