Notes:
Summary Fresh and at roomtemperature dehydrated pig-corneae, preserved for lamellar keratoplasty, were examined by light- and electronmicroscopy. Morphological features of fresh tissue were compared with tissue before and after rehydration. The responsible connective tissue for the survival and clarity of the lamellar transplant could be demonstrated, whereas the finer structures of cells after dehydration could not be detected. The importance of a careful preoperative rehydration of the tissue for the protection of the collagen was emphasized.
