By UV irradiation of a solution of dimanganese-decacarbonyl Mn2(CO)10 in propylene oxide all the carbon monoxide of Mn2(CO)10 can be removed. The precipitating product polymerises the propylene oxide at elevated temperatures. The intrinsic viscosity of these polymers is much greater than the intrinsic viscosity of the polymers obtained with FeCl3 as a catalyst.

Bei UV-Bestrahlung einer Lösung von Mangandecacarbonyl Mn2(CO)10 in Propylenoxid kann das gesamte Kohlenmonoxid aus Mn2(CO)10 abgespalten werden. Das ausfallende Reaktionsprodukt polymerisiert bei höheren Temperaturen das Propylenoxid. Die Grenzviscosität [η] der so erhaltenen Polymeren ist wesentlich größer als die unter gleichen Bedingungen mit FeCl3 als Katalysator erhaltenen Polymeren.
