Summary Ethanolamines are investigated by thin-layer chromatography using silica gel, aluminium oxide and cellulose layers, as well as by HPLC using LiChrosorb Si 60 and LiChrosorb RP 18 as adsorbents. The dependence of the separation effect of mono-, di-, triethanolamine mixtures on mobile phase polarity, measured by polarity index P′ according to Snyder was studied. Enthalpies and entropies of transfer of ethanolamines from mobile to stationary phase were calculated from retention data by evaluation of van't Hoff plots determined for methanol — H2O as eluent.

Zusammenfassung Die Ethanolamine wurden mit Hilfe der DC (Silicagel, Aluminiumoxid, Cellulose) sowie der HPLC (LiChrosorb Si 60 und RP 18) untersucht. Die Abhängigkeit der Auftrennbarkeit von Mono-, Di- und Triethanolgemischen von der Polarität der mobilen Phase (gemessen durch den Polaritätsindex P′ nach Snyder) wird diskutiert. Die Enthalpie und Entropie für den Übergang der Ethanolamine von der mobilen zur stationären Phase wurden aus den Retentionswerten berechnet (Auswertung nach van't Hoff, Methanol/Wasser als Eluens).
