Notizen: We have investigated how the behavior of a transition shell atomic species (species A) with orbital magnetism, driven by hybridization-mediated interactions via a sea of band electrons, is modified by the addition of a second parasite hybridizer (species B). Our approach involves a two-stage procedure. First, we calculate the modification of the band electron sea by hybridization with B by using a slave boson formalism. Second, the modifications in the A-A interionic interactions driving the orbital magnetic ordering are calculated by applying a Schrieffer–Wolff transformation on the renormalized Anderson lattice hamiltonian obtained from the first stage. The new A-A interactions have a different radial dependence (range factor) which depends in a nonlinear way on the band-B hybridization strength: and the consequences of this change on the magnetic ordering are studied using a mean-field approximation. This enables us to model the reduction in the magnetic ordering caused by competing parasite hybridization, and the dependence of this reduction on the relative hybridization strengths of the two species.

Notizen: Abstract We present calculations of the thermal conductivity, viscosity, and longitudinal spin diffusion of degenerate3He-4He mixtures as a function of spin polarization. Physical arguments and sum rules are used to describe qualitatively the behavior of the effective interactions between two3He quasiparticles. A recently proposed potential model is consistent with these expectations and provides the momentum- and polarization-dependent transition probabilities that enter into transport calculations. In the limit of small3He concentrations, our results agree with previous calculations based on the hard sphere model. For concentrations nearing saturation, however, we find structure in the thermal conductivity as a function of polarization with the3He density kept fixed. While the behavior of the viscosity remainsqualitatively similar to that at low concentration, the spin diffusion coefficient is qualitatively different. This behavior of the transport coefficients is largely a consequence of the strongly polarization dependentm z =1 triplet scattering rate which becomes comparable to that in the singlet channel at large polarizations.

Notizen: Abstract We develop a model for paramagnetic Fermi liquids. This model has both direct and induced interactions, the latter including both density-density and current-current response. The direct interactions are chosen to reproduce the Fermi liquid parametersF 0 s ,F 0 a ,F 1 s and to satisfy the forward scattering sum rule. TheF 1 a andF 1 s,a for1〉1 are determined self-consistently by the induced interactions; they are checked against experimental determinations. The model is applied in detail to liquid3He, using data from spin-echo experiments, sound attenuation, and the velocities of first and zero sound. Consistency with experiments gives definite preferences for values ofm*. The model is also applied to paramagnetic metals. Arguments are given that this model should provide a basis for calculating effects of magnetic fields.

Notizen: Abstract A model for calculating the interactions in arbitrarily spin-polarized Fermi systems is presented. Starting from the four-point vertex functions, the “induced” part of the interactions is deduced by explicitly treating the one-particle, one-hole irreducible diagrams and using some general crossing symmetry relations. Extrapolation away from the Fermi surface is carried out by replacing the particle-hole phase space by Lindhard functions in the “crossed” channel; consequently, calculation of the necessary ↑-↓ phase space function is presented. The longitudinal spin-density and density responses for polarized systems are obtained by diagrammatic means. A possible way of treating the “direct” part of the interactions using Born approximation is also discussed. Finally, the limits of the model for zero and full polarization are given.
