Notes: All representatives of an inorganic crystal structure type can be found systematically in the new database SICS (Standardized Inorganic Crystal Structures). It is derived from the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database (ICSD) by selecting the best determination of each phase. In addition, each entry is given in a standardized description and complemented by searchable descriptors \Delta, which give the difference between all structures of an isopointal set. Because of the large number of structures the full information on relationships present can only be found by means of the new database itself. Some examples are given here in printed form. The limitations and the possibilities of expansion of SICS in terms of the concept of `structure types' are demonstrated.

Notes: Summary Thrombocytopenia is a frequent and sometimes insidious complication of anticoagulant therapy with heparin. Two types of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia with a distinct aetiology have been recognized. Type I is characterized by a mild thrombocytopenia of early onset which requires careful monitoring but usually not the cessation of heparin therapy. The mild thrombocytopenia is probably due to the mild pro-aggregatory properties of heparin and can be more severe in the presence of other predisposing factors, e.g. sepsis. Type II heparin-induced thrombocytopenia is more severe and usually occurs after a period of 7–10 days. Heparin therapy should be ceased immediately and other anticoagulant therapy initiated. The thrombocytopenia is believed to be due to the development of a heparin-dependent antibody that causes platelet aggregation and release. The precise mechanism of heparin-dependent antibody-platelet interaction is still not entirely clear but probably involves the binding of an antibody-heparin immune complex to the platelet Fc receptor.

Notes: Abstract The Pariser-Parr-Pople method is used to predict the singlet-singlet (π→π * type). Electronic transition energies for the anions of hydroxy derivatives of benzene, pyridine and pyrimidine. The core integral for the -O− substituent was treated as an empirical parameter and its value was chosen to fit results for the phenoxide ion and then applied for the compounds with the -O− substituents. The results of the calculations for molecules with the -O− groups are compared with those of the corresponding molecules containing the -OH and -NH2 substituents as well as with the experimental data. No serious deviations between theoretical and experimental data other than those which could be ascribed to steric hindrances occuring in the molecules were found.

Description / Table of Contents: Formation of organosilicon compounds. XXXXVI. Si-fluorinated carbosilanesCompounds (1)-(7) (see “Inhaltsübersicht”) are obtained by reaction of carbosilanes containing Si—Cl groups with ZnF2. The linear compounds (8) and (9) are prepared from ZnF2 and (Cl3Si)2CCl2, and (Cl3Si—CCl2)SiCl2, respectively, whereas the cyclic compounds are formed by photochemical chlorination. Photochemical chlorination of (3) goes via compounds (13) and (14) (isolation is possible); both of them can be prepared too by reaction of Si—Cl derivatives with ZnF2. Compounds (16) and (17) are obtained from the corresponding Si—Cl derivatives.
