Notes: —A rapid and sensitive radioimmunoassay for the neuron-specific protein, 14-3-2, has been developed. The assay was used to determine the amounts of 14-3-2 protein in soluble extracts prepared from clones of the C 1300 murine neuroblastoma and from C 1300 × L cell hybrid clones. The values obtained with the radioimmune procedure correlated with those obtained in microcomplement fixation and microprecipitin assays.

Notes: Abstract The paper deals with the principles of cathodic protection for atmospherically exposed concrete structures, the various protecting effects induced by the cathodic polarization and tests and field experience results. The differences between the cathodic protection applied for controlling the corrosion rate of chloride contaminated co nstructions and that applied to improve the corrosion resistance of the reinforcement of new structures expected to become contaminated are then underlined and discussed. The more recent applications of cathodic protection on carbonated concrete are also illustrated. The operating conditions (voltage and current applied), the throwing power, the protection conditions which avoid the risk of hydrogen embrittlement in prestressed structures are also discussed. Examples of cathodic protection and of cathodic prevention are also presented.

Notes: Abstract The paper introduces a Kalman filter procedure for the processing of single-sweep visual evoked potentials (VEPs). The identification of the filter coefficients is based on a model of signal and noise interaction which considers the generating process as the superposition of the true evoked response to an AR process (the background EEG) and a broader spectrum noise. Intersweep variability is thus evident on the filtered response and a functional parameter of the filter (VP(t), namely variability path) is proposed for the automatic determination of the latencies associated with the main peaks of the response. Finally, the time-variant algorithm allows the quantification of the intrasweep variability for possible interpretation of the physiological mechanism involved.

Description / Table of Contents: Ermüdungsverhalten der 8090 Al—Li Legierung in chloridhaltigen UmgebungenDer Einfluß chloridhaltiger Umgebung auf das Ermüdungsverhalten einer 8090 Al—Li—Mg—Cu-Legierung wurde untersucht.
Notes: The effect of an environment containing chloride on the fatigue behaviour of a 8090 Al—Li—Mg—Cu alloy was studied. Results were compared with those obtained on a traditional 2024 Al—Cu—Mg alloy. Fatigue and corrosion-fatigue tests were carried out both on smooth specimens and riveted samples. In order to assess the corrosion behaviour of the materials and their susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking, potentiodynamic polarization and slow strain rate tests were carried out. Results showed a remarkable effect of the aggressive environment on the fatigue behaviour both of the innovative 8090 alloy (in T8 ageing conditions) and on the traditional clad 2024 alloy (in T3 natural ageing conditions), though the former showed slightly better behaviour. Nevertheless, in the presence of rivets the reduction in fatigue strength in the aggressive environment was negligible. Slow strain rate tests showed premature fractures under anodic polarization above the pitting potential and with a strain rate of 10-6 s-1, only for the 8090 T8 alloy.
