Notes: Abstract  In guinea-pig papillary muscles the positive inotropic effect of flosequinoxan (BTS) starting at 100 μmol/l amounted to 287.6±34.2% at 300 μmol/l without any effects on time to peak tension (103.9±2%) and relaxation time (107.1±6.7% of predrug value, respectively). 10 μmol/l carbachol attenuated the positive inotropic effect of 300 μmol/l to 166.5±11.6% (n=10). The phosphorylation state of the inhibitory subunit of troponin (TnI) and phospholamban (PLB) in [32P]-labeled guinea-pig ventricular myocytes was increased starting at 100 μmol/l amounting to 142.5±12.6% and 130.9±2.2% at 300 μmol/l, respectively (n=5). Furthermore, BTS (300 μmol/l) decreased phosphorylase phosphatase activity by 23.1%. It is concluded that the contractile effects of BTS are accompanied by enhanced phosphorylation of regulatory proteins which could in part be due to inhibition of phosphorylase phosphatase activity.

Notes: Abstract Ethyleneα-olefin copolymers differ from other polyethylenes in that: - there is no long chain branching; - short chain branching is determined by the comonomer unit; - the molecular mass distribution is sharp; - the side chain distribution on different molecules is broad; - the sequential distribution of branching is very broad along the molecular chains, which becauses a multi-peak lamella distribution, and a multi-peak melting heat. With the help of a cross-fractionation method we interpreted the differences of the experimental data, according to the molecular mass fractionation and the branching received. The thermal history has a great influence on ethylene-α-olefin copolymers, evidenced in the crystallization time for the same branching type, but with extremely varied branching percentages.

Notes: Abstract It will be shown that low-density polyethylene is a eutectoid copolymer with non-random distribution of branchings along the chains. From a line-profile analysis it is deduced that the crystal-size-distribution is uniquely related with the distribution of branchings thus yielding that basic features of the colloid-structure are controlled by the chemical structure of the macromolecules.

Notes: A method for the calculation of crystallite size distributions from the profile of wide-angle x-ray reflections is developed. The influence of lattice distortions on the profile is taken into account. The information about the lattice distortions is obtained from the measurement of the integral widths of a number of reflections. The method is applied to samples of (ethylen-1 hexen) copolymers. The change of crystallite size distributions in lateral directions with increasing temperature (20-121°C) is measured. Recrystallization processes at temperatures near the melting point are observed. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Description / Table of Contents: Based on experimental results a strain region is proved to exist in chemical multifilament yarns (about 0 to 0.3%) in which the linear theory of viscoelasticity holds as in polymer solids, the deviations caused by the multifilamentary composition having to be taken into account. The moduli determined by different methods can be described by a common pattern with respect to the value and time of the stress applied. With highly oriented samples the maximum of the modulus indicates the begin of irreversible deformation and depends on the length distribution of the molecules.
