Notes: Abstract A new method of preparing fibre reinforced glasses is put forward, which is based on further developments of the known slurry method and the sol-gel technique. This method combines the advantages of the two procedures. The prepregs are hot-pressed and the influence of preparation parameters on the bending strength are investigated. The pressure, temperature, time of pressing, granulation of the glass powder, the type of sol-gel solution and the gas atmosphere during the hot-pressing were all studied.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The equalization procedures of inhomogeneous interfaces being the basis of the interface convection flows may be reduced to three fundamental processes: a. Spreading parallel to the interface with a definite spreading direction and spreading pressure. b. vortices with definite rotation sense and c. at curved interfaces deformations vertical directed to the interface with coincident acting vortex and spreading movements in most cases. The greater the differences and the gradients of the interface energies the more intensive are the equalization procedures and with that the interface convection flows. The disturbances leading to the inhomogeneity of the interface are divided in disturbances giving occasion to forced or to free interface convection flows. With this the following types of disturbances are important: material interchanges (three substance boundaries in two or three phase systems), heat transition, density instability, hydrodynamic and diffusion dependent instability and electrical fields.
