Notes:
Summary Four main factors which determine the shape and the polarity of the helium detector signal are discussed. All possible responses of this detector, both in elution and in vacancy chromatography, are presented and special attention is drawn to the intermediate region. The idea of ionization vacancy is introduced for the specific case of two components which are unresolved by the column and to which the detector responds with different sensitivity.
