Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Summary Based on the calculations by Brodda and v. Mengden (1971), two nomograms are represented which give a correlation between the most important acid-base-parameters in the erythrocyte and their dependence on O2 saturation. After measuring the triple value ofP CO 2,P O 2 and pH in the blood, the actual and standard base excess (BE), actual and standard bicarbonate, buffer bases (BB) and standard pH in the erythrocyte can be determined. The correlated values for the whole blood are obtained by a second nomogram. The advantage of these nomograms is that the whole of the intraerythrocytic acid-base status can be determined without additional calculations or any equilibration with gas mixtures. As a result, the therapy for a disturbance of the acidbase status in the blood is more accurate because the decisive intraerythrocytic buffer system can be included in differential therapeutical considerations. The arrangement and method of using the nomograms are explained.
