Summary 1. The unit which was put into operation for the continuous purification of mineral oils with acid and alkali in the S.Ordzhonikidze Khabarovsk Oil Refinery has great advantages over analogous batch-wise operated units, as regards both capacity and all other technical and economic characteristics. 2. Continuous purification of oils with acid and alkali according to the scheme proposed may be incorporated in any plant without high expenses for the replacement of the existing, batch-wise operated, processes. 3. Application of an electric field with the aim of achieving rapid separation of the acid and oil phases during purification adds to the possibilities of the acid-alkali purification of mineral oils. 4. An electric field of high strength may be utilized to speed up phase separation, not only during purification of oils but also in nearly all processes in which oil products are purified with reagents.
