In this paper the generalized Neumann expansion of the interelectronic distance function r12k with integer values of the exponent k, in the interval k≥−1, is presented. The problem is formulated in the prolate spherical coordinates and the uniform expression for the expansion in the form of the series of products of the powers of ξ1 and ξ2 variables and the certain auxiliary function Hl(m)(ξ〈,ξ(approximately-greater-than)) is obtained. The function Hl(m)(ξ〈,ξ(approximately-greater-than)) is expressed by means of the Legendre polynomials of the first and the second kind in the case of odd number k and is constant, when k is even. © 1994 American Institute of Physics.
