Notes:
Numerous laboratory studies have been conducted in an effort to determine the susceptibility of dental alloys to tarnish and corrosion.1-8 These investigations have embodied a variety of storage media, storage times and the influence of variables such as the presence of dissimilar metals. However, there is little in vivo data to establish the validity of the various in vitro tests with respect to their efficacy in predicting the susceptibility of the respective alloys to tarnish in the oral environment. It was the purpose of this research to compare the tarnish of three gold alloys as assessed by an in vitro test with the in vivo tarnish of the same alloys.
