Description / Table of Contents: Separation of Rare Earth Mixtures by Multistage Distribution with Di-(2-ethylhexyl)-phosphoric Acid.Mixtures of light and heavy lanthanides are distributed between an aqueous solution of their chlorides and an organic solution of di-(2-ethylhexyl)-phosphoric acid using a multistage cascade of mixer-settlers. The distribution of the rare earths in this system is based on an ion-exchange. By varying the equilibrium position in a suitable manner a practically complete reflux at both ends of the cascade is obtained. The pattern of the concentrations within the apparatus and the separating effects are discussed. The process partly yields very high separating effects.
