Notes:
Summary A kinetic method based on the slow rate of complexation between copper(II) and 5,5′-dimethyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione bis(4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazone) is described. This slow complexation is due to the slowsyn-anti equilibration of the reagent. The reaction, in 2.5–3.0M hydrochloric acid medium, is followed by measuring the rate of change of the absorbance at 430 nm. The calibration graph is linear over the copper range 0.8–8.0μg/ml, with a relative standard deviation of 0.9% (tangent method) and 1.3% (fixed-time method). The procedure is practically free from interferences.
