Notes: 1. Salivary paracetamol elimination was studied in nine patients with congestive cardiac failure (CCF). Six healthy volunteers served as the control group.2. Paracetamol elimination t1/2 and apparent volume of distribution were significantly higher in patients with CCF compared with controls. There was no significant change in the clearance rate.3. Drug therapy of failure for a period of 15 days returned the t1/2 and V values to normality.

Notes: 1. Salivary elimination of paracetamol was studied in nine type I and ten type II diabetics. Ten healthy volunteers served as a control group.2. A significant increase in the elimination half-life (t1/2) and apparent volume of distribution was observed in type I diabetics compared with controls. Clearance rate (CL) was not significantly altered.3. In type II diabetics paracetamol elimination t1/2 was significantly increased with a corresponding decrease in CL. Apparent volume of distribution of the drug was not significantly different.4. Paracetamol elimination t1/2 had significant correlation with fasting blood sugar values.

Notes: The identity of the title complex, C13H10ClNO·C7H6O2, is confirmed to be a hydrogen-bonded adduct of benzoic acid and N-(3-chlorophenyl)-α-phenylnitrone. The two aromatic rings in the nitrone are trans about the C=N bond.

Notes: The temperature and strain rate fields in severe plastic deformation (SPD) are measuredusing infra-red thermography and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), respectively. Plane strainmachining is used as the method of SPD to impose controlled strains and strain rates. For metalssuch as titanium, the temperature rise is small at small strain rates and SPD occurs at near-ambienttemperature. The possibility of exploring dynamic recovery/recrystallization phenomena using theZener-Hollomon parameter in this SPD framework is briefly discussed

Notes: Abstract It is shown that the bulk modulus of a polycrystalline material, composed of cubic single crystals, is the same as that of the constituent single crystal. The bulk modulus of the aggregate is independent of the distribution of the individual single crystals. The same results apply also to other polycrystalline systems, whose constituent single crystals undergo a pure uniform contraction when subjected to hydrostatic pressure.

Notes: Abstract A constant danger associated with the use of most grinding wheels (vitrified-bond alumina and silicon carbide wheels) is the possibility of fracture during operation. A standard practice is to subject newly manufactured wheels to a spin test and accept wheels that survive. We propose an internal pressure test which offers a simpler, more economical alternative to the spin test for testing grinding wheels. Probabilities of failure in the internal pressure test are correlated with failure probabilities in the spin test using probabilistic fracture mechanics. Results indicate a reasonably good correlation between the two tests, thus demonstrating their equivalence. A scheme for the easy implementation of the internal pressure test to detect damage in grinding wheels is outlined.

Notes: Abstract A diamond indentor is attached to the periphery of an aluminium wheel and slid against ferrite and sapphire surfaces at high speed. A high-frequency response infrared sensor is used to measure the average diamond tip temperature and a piezoelectric dynamometer is used to measure the normal and tangential forces acting on the indentor. The analytical procedure estimates the heat flux at the contact as the product of the shear traction and the tangential velocity. The heat flux is used in conjunction with a Green's function to calculate the interface temperature and the tangential surface stress. The calculated and measured grain tip temperatures are compared and the relative magnitudes of the mechanical and thermal surface stresses are calculated. Finally, the importance of thermal effects on the wear and surface finishing of ceramics is discussed.
