Notes:
Summary A new method for the determination of benzene, nitrobenzene, m-dinitrobenzene, m-nitroaniline, and m-phenylenediamine is based upon the reduction to the diamine and its coupling with diazotized N1,N1-diethylsulphanilamide. A mixture of azo dyes is formed containing also a trisazo derivative. The dyes are extracted with amyl alcohol to form an orange solution stable for several weeks. The limit of detection is 0.5 Μg of benzene or its derivative. The error of the photometric determination (425 or 470 nm) is 〈±2%. Furthermore, a purity test for amyl alcohol with diazobenzenesulphonamides is proposed.
