Notes: Abstract It is argued that space-time has a cellular structure, the exact structure being observer-dependent and consistent with the amount of energy he has available for refining his measuring apparatus. The usual concept of a single distance in continuous space is replaced by the concept of a distance set between cells, the elements of each set depending on the cellular structures of both the space and the measuring rod that is used in the measurement. The idea that there are many different ways of measuring the same observable is abandoned: instead, the definition of the original observable becomes split by the different measuring processes used, and the results of a measurement of each new observable defined by this splitting are predicted from the eigenvalues of a common operator by using an observer-dependent construction. Transformations between observers with different cellular structures are considered. The transformation is not as exact as in the continuous case, with at best a cell of one space being associated with a set of cells in the other. This transformation is determined by information being exchanged by the observers concerning the locations in their two spaces of a finite number of common events. The transformation becomes more exact as more information is exchanged.

Notes: Abstract The implications of the lack of continuity in space-time brought about by every observation process are discussed in connection with the need for finding new observables based on realisable measuring processes. Displacements in a cellular space are defined and their rules of combination are formulated. Rotations in a cellular space are defined in terms of a set of radius displacements and in terms of a set of instructions which tell how these radii should be used.

Notes: Abstract A discussion of the roles of assumption and abstraction in physics is presented, with emphasis on the fact that if abstractions are used long enough it becomes difficult to disentangle them from what is actually observed. The unclear meaning of the wordsame in the context of two observers measuring the same observable is also discussed. An observable is defined operationally as a list of instructions, and this definition also defines the wordsame in this context. Methods for the combination of these observables are presented. An observer decides whether or not a list of instructions is physically realisable by examining the states of the system, and it is shown how these states are based on the observer's powers of perception. Finally, an account of the operational nature of cellular space-time is given, the fuzzy nature of the cell boundaries is discussed, and it is shown how measuring rods consisting of ‘straight’ strings of cells may be constructed.

Notes: Abstract The Dirac equation in six-dimensional relativity (three space and three time) is considered and shown to correspond to particles which have spatial spin-1/2 and temporal spin-1/2. Explicit forms of the spinor transformation are found. Plane wave solutions are obtained and their properties are given in terms of spatial and temporal spins and helicities. An expression is found for the charge conjugation operator.
