Notes: Abstract: We reconsider the semiconductor trions from scratch. We first determine the very many “reasonable” ways to write the trions in first quantization. We then select the forms which are easy to relate to physical pictures. In a second part, we derive the corresponding creation operators in second quantization. We pay particular attention to the expression of the X- trion in terms of exciton and free-electron, as it is the one adapted to future works on many-body effects with trions.

Notes: Abstract We show that the exciton optical Stark effect is basically a dressed-exciton effect: excitons are dressed by the electromagnetic field in a way similar to the way atoms are dressed. The situation appears, however, much richer in semiconductor than in atomic physics due to both the complexity of the band structure and the Coulomb interaction between excitons. We show that the dressed-exciton effect can appear as either a blue or a red shift of the exciton line as well as a splitting of exciton levels, with an interesting dimensional effect in the absorption strength. We also relate the dressed-exciton to the polariton effect.

Notes: Abstract We rederive the Coulomb expansion of the electron gas average energy at finite temperature, starting from scratch, i.e., using only the framework of the grand canonical ensemble and not the finite-T Green's function formalism. We recover the analytical expressions of the exchange and correlation energy in both the high-T and theT=0 limits. We explicitly show the origin of the crossover of the correlation energy leading term frome 4 lne 2 at zero temperature toe 3 at finiteT. We also discuss the relative importance of exchange and correlation in both limits.
